November is National Diabetes Month, and communities nationwide seek to bring attention to diabetes during this designated month. Many times, this disease can be delayed or prevented with healthy lifestyle changes.

What is Diabetes?

It is a disease that occurs when your blood sugar is too high. It affects about 37 million Americans, including adults and youth. Poorly controlled diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart. It has also been linked to certain types of cancer. Taking charge of your health can prevent diabetes health problems.


Tips For Taking Charge of Your Health

Manage your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. levels

  1. Check your blood sugar regularly

  2. Plan Healthy Meals

  3. Get regular exercise

  4. Get enough sleep

  5. Stop smoking or using tobacco

  6. Take medications on time

  7. Reach or Maintain a Healthy Weight

  8. Take Care of your Mental Health

  9. Work with your Healthcare Team to develop a treatment plan you can manage successfully.

  10. Learn more about self-management through education programs

Diabetes Education Programs

Talk with your healthcare provider about enrollment in diabetes self-management education programs near you. Programs are available in the Toombs County and Surrounding Area.
